Juniper BBQ Sauce
use a good brand
1 & 1/2
fresh squeezed orange juice
about 3 large oranges – no seeds
1 & 1/2
white wine vinegar
regular full flavor not black strap
light or dark – either works
lower half of green parts – chopped
apple (like gala or fuji)
peeled & cubed
1 & 1/3
use a good brand – taste matters
coarse kosher salt
(regular or spicy depending on preference)
Add all ingredients – EXCEPT Gin, salt, pepper & seasoning (wait on these).
Bring ingredients in the saucepan up to a simmer. Reduce heat & simmer for 10-15 minutes
Now, add Gin plus salt,pepper & seasoning. Simmer for 5 more minutes, Remove from heat & allow to ‘steep’ for 1 hour.
Remove bay leaves. Use an immersion blender to puree to smooth (or a Vitamix or Ninja blender if you don’t have an immersion blender)
Strain (if you wish-optional) to get a completely smooth product
Pour into a jar or container & refrigerate. Will keep up to a month or more.
Great slathered on ribs before they come out of the smoker or off the grill !!
